Night of the Living Grim is the third segment of the ninth episode of the second season of Grim & Evil, and the first segment of the second episode of the second season of The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy.

Plot[]

Mandy's hanging out at Billy's house, reading a magazine on the couch, while Billy's playing a video game called Attack of the Non-Toxic Edible Green Slime, where the hero's catchphrase is "It's time to eat some slime." Billy then sees some green slime floating in the air and tries (but fails) to eat it. Mandy hears some sneezing coming from one of the bedrooms at Billy's house and the kids go to investigate -- the sneezing is revealed to be coming from Grim, who's lying in bed sick.

While Billy cleans up all the slime (by way of sucking it up in a vacuum cleaner), Mandy looks through Grim's books to try and figure what he's sick with. After doing a bit of research, Mandy figures out that Grim's sick with something called "Encroaching Doom Syndrome" and claims that, according to the book, they can either head to the Underworld Hospital for a cure or stay home and let the virus run its course. Grim doesn't want to see a doctor, but Mandy forces him to go.

While Grim and the kids are in the waiting, Mandy notices how most of the other patients (at least on the outside) look much worse than Grim does. But when the other patients realize that Grim is sick with Encroaching Doom Syndrome, they all run away in fear (while screaming their heads off). Grim's soon whisked away to the operating room, with the UH-doctors doing their best to help him. Unfortunately, they're unable to do anything -- in fact, much to the shock of everyone present (including Billy and Mandy), Grim (somehow) becomes a human.

Upon getting back to Billy's house in Endsville, Grim realizes that he's totally naked and asks Billy to get him some clothes -- Billy ends up lending some of his clothes to Grim, which are obviously too small to properly fit Grim (but at least now Grim's not completely naked). The three go to spend some time at the mall, where Grim starts complaining about his human form (which Mandy ends up calling "France" after Mindy, not realizing that it's just Grim-as-a-human, introduces herself to Billy and Mandy's new friend). Grim briefly starts liking his human form when he sees that a lot of the women in Endsville find him attractive -- but this quickly wears off when it incurs the wrath of jealous boyfriends and husbands (many of whom beat "France" to a pulp).

At the end of the episode, Grim's complaining about how much he hates being a human, when he gets eaten by the slime monster Billy vacuumed up at the beginning of the episode (Billy calls the monster "Slimey"). But this proves to be a good thing, because when Slimey spits Grim out, Grim's now back to his skeletal-form. Billy then excitedly screams "Do me!" before jumping into the slime.

Trivia[]

  • Billy apparently has a habit of drinking out of the toilet. At the beginning of the episode, Mandy asks him "Have you been drinking out of the toilet again?", and Billy responds with "Maybe."
  • It's never revealed how Grim got Encroaching Doom Syndrome. Mandy also questions how the Grim Reaper could actually get sick (since Grim is an undead skeleton).
    • Grim thought he probably got it from Irwin, claiming, "He's always sticking his fingers where he shouldn't be."
  • Two of the women who found Grim's human form attractive were Mindy and Gladys.
  • The title is a reference to Night of the Living Dead.
    • Ironically, the episode it's paired with, "Brown Evil", has a similar plot to Night of the Living Dead ( and Resident Evil), making both episodes a reference to popular zombie franchises.
  • Originally, Grim's human form was supposed to resemble his voice actor, Greg Eagles. However, one of the executives for Cartoon Network informed the crew that in doing so, it would show two white children owning a black man, bringing unfortunate slavery parallels. Therefore, his human form was made white.
  • Grim gets punched 2 minutes later by Harold. Later, Grim says "He get beat up every 2 minutes."
  • This segment was included on the Cartoon Network Halloween 2: Grossest Halloween Ever DVD but with the The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy intro and end credits for it has the Grim & Evil credits audio heard.
