Toadblatt's School of Sorcery is third segment of the sixth episode of the second season of Grim & Evil, and the first segment of the first episode of the second season of The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy.

Plot[]

On the first day of summer, Billy and Mandy are due to be sent to summer camps they do not wish to attend (Billy's is a maths camp and Mandy's is a camp teaching people to be happy and friendly), so Grim sends them to Toadblatt's Summer School of Sorcery instead. When they arrive, they are greeted by Dean Toadblatt. Billy and Mandy are sent to Weaselthorpe House ("the worst house on the campus" according to Toadblatt), whilst Toadblatt makes Grim the prefect of Gunderstank House.

When Billy and Mandy arrive at Weaselthorpe House, they are introduced to the other students by wizard Nigel Planter. Nigel informs Billy and Mandy of the House Championship, which Gunderstank always wins due to being Toadblatt's favorite house. To help Weaselthorpe win the championship, Mandy proposes that they sabotage Gunderstank.

The next day, whilst Toadblatt is sitting in on one of Grim's potion classes, Mandy discretely switches one of the ingredients in an basic invisibility potion, causing it to instead transform Grim and Toadblatt into an armadillo and an angler fish, infuriating Toadblatt. Later that night, Billy and Mandy steal Toadblatt's Cumulon-6 broomstick from his office and place it in his castle, releasing a Gunderstank-brand dragon as well. When Toadblatt returns, he discovers both the broomstick and the dragon, which destroys his castle, infuriating him even more. Finally, on a field trip to the Enchanted Meadow the next day, Billy switches two signposts around so that a sign for the Enchanted Meadow leads into a dark cave. When Toadblatt attempts to enter the cave, he is grabbed by a "deadly manticore", which attacks and tries to eat him, infuriating him even more.

Mandy's sabotage plans work, and Weaselthorpe wins the House Championship. Nigel claims the credit for it, which annoys Mandy. At the celebration party, Nigel attempts to kiss Mandy, but she tricks him into admitting to the sabotage in front of Toadblatt and Grim. When he is caught, Nigel attempts to bluff his way out but a furious Toadblatt warns Nigel he is "finished". Nigel thinks it means getting expelled, but he isn't so lucky. Instead, he is sent to a battleground, where Billy, Mandy, Grim, Toadblatt and the rest of the school watch Nigel get brutally beaten and mauled (off-screen) by a "giant, one-eyed dwarf". Before his pummeling, Nigel tries to defend himself and insists it really was all Mandy's idea, but she says, "Don't be so modest, Nigel. Take credit where credit is due."

Trivia[]

  • The episode's storyline is a clear parody of the Harry Potter series.
  • This episode is the first to use the title card's new theme tune, which lasts for the remainder of the series.
  • One of the Weaselthorpe house students resembles a younger General Skarr.
  • Although this is the second season premiere of Grim & Evil, it is technically the premiere of The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy series, due to the cartoons separating into their own spin-offs before the season could properly premiere.

Quotes[]

  • The Squidhat: Wow! Now, this one's an empty vessel! If you know what I mean.
  • Dean Toadblatt: Do you mean a fertile mind that's open to learning?
  • The Squidhat: Man, I mean empty. His head is hollow as a coconut! You better send him to Weaselthorpe.
  • Dean Toadblatt: Weaselthorpe?
  • The Squidhat: Yes Weaselthrope!
  • Dean Toadblatt: I hate Weaselthorpe! Because they're nothing but nincompoops, freaks and weirdos! The worst house in the campus! They drew my picture on the restroom wall!
  • The Squidhat: Oh no.
  • Dean Toadblatt: Oh, yes. I saw it. For a good time, indeed. But soon they'll get theirs, you'll see. I, uh... Where were we?
  • Grim: I don't know how that can got in your castle, Gunderstank's being framed.
  • Dean Toadblatt: You're on thin ice, Mr. Reaper. This field trip better go off without a hitch or else.
  • Grim: Okay, today we enter the Enchanted Meadow to milk Jabberwocks.
  • Dean Toadblatt: Hey, Jerkwad! You're going in the wrong way! The Enchanted Meadow is in that spooky cave, and the Deadly Manticore is in the Happy Meadow! Can't you read!?
  • Grim: Oh! You're right.
  • Dean Toadblatt: Of course I'm right, I'm the dean.
  • Manticore: Yum! Frog’s legs! (attacks Dean Toadblatt)
